Former Manchester United star Ravel Morrison will face the Red Devils in a special pre-season match. A squad of 18 out-of-contract Professional Footballers’ Association stars travel to Carrington on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Red Devils’ under-21 side in a pre-season friendly.

The PFA have set up a summer program aimed at finding new free agents for the club to join the club in the new campaign.   Morrison, who started his career at Old Trafford, is among the players to play. Now in his 31st year. Morrison, West Ham;  Lazio  Ostersund,  Sheffield United  Last played at MLS club DC United with ADO Den Haag and Derby County. Rio Ferdinand says Sir Alex Ferguson will remember Morrison’s time with the Premier League giants.

Speaking on his Vibe with Five podcast, I asked Sir Alex Ferguson for five words and he texted me back: ‘Rio.  Ravel’s first and last impression as a child was that he always had time and space, and for a boy his age, he could always be at football.

Speaking about the PFA scheme, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said he thinks it’s a good initiative and will help players a lot, especially if they’re coming down the pyramid and looking for a new club.

I played and managed at that level, and there wasn’t much long-term security.  You’re lucky to be in the game, but when you have uncertainty, it affects not only you, but your family where you live. There’s a lot to think about when it comes to being your kids.   All this at school. “When the pre-season starts, it’s the clubs that can really feel it for those who haven’t got a new contract. They will suddenly feel like they are looking outside. I can try to multitask, but it can be difficult mentally. There is no substitute for being around other players and having a structured soccer environment where you are pushed.   There are a lot of players who will really benefit from this. We will do our best to be ready for the next opportunity.”
