Arne Slot has warned that Liverpool will only sign players if they meet the ‘very high bar’ set to become a Liverpool player. The Dutchman is happy with the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp, but sporting director Richard Hughes admits he is busy with marketing.

However,  Slot said that finding players to improve the squad will not be easy, and that As the only top team in the Premier League, the Reds have so many good players that the bar for new signings is so high this season that it is not easy to find a quality player in the first place. And is he available? Then have to find an agreement with them.  So it’s not easy to find a player who can help us, but Richard is going to try hard and let’s see what happens from here.”

Liverpool have been linked with a number of defensive midfielders but are yet to make a move to sign him. They missed out on Moises Caicedo last summer and have since brought in Japan international Wataru Endo in the window. Endo started the Reds’ pre-season tour at No.6 against Real Betis, but Slot was swapped for Arsenal and Dominik Szoboszlai, and Manchester United and Ryan Gravenberch.

The new Liverpool boss has indicated that Ando is looking at other options for the position.Slot said he doesn’t have a number of signings in mind and is focused on preparing the players he has while still in regular contact with Hughes. Euros stars Virgil van Dijk;  Cody Gakpo  Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold are set to resume training alongside Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez, who joined the latter stages of the Copa America on Tuesday.

Alisson left the Brazil squad early but was renewed. Alexander-Arnold’s long-term future remains in doubt ahead of the new season, with Real Madrid yet to sign a new contract linking him to the club. Slot spoke to the right back in the summer.  He said, “We didn’t talk about his commitment.”  I just told him how I wanted him to play and how he would fit in. At the moment I spoke, he was mainly focused on the Euro.“I’ve seen videos of him training, looking fit and sharp. But some of them did quite well against Manchester United, so it’ll be interesting to see if others come back. The levels are rising.”

beta  Liverpool remained undefeated in the United States, beating Arsenal and United. Sevilla face Las Palmas on Sunday in their final friendly at Anfield. Slot went on to say, “Jurgen has put this team in a great place, not just because of this tour. I think I’ve said it before. Now it’s up to us to continue to perform as Liverpool have done for many years.”
